Dear Friends & Supporters:
Thank you so much for your interest in our film. We have worked very hard to bring as much awareness as we could to the issue of missing and murdered women along the Highway of Tears. We did not anticipate that this push for awareness and action would lead us across Canada, the United States, Mexico and around the world. Sadly, the stories of missing and murdered women continue to flood our news feeds, but the world community is finally starting to respond and is fighting back to protect women. There has been a definite change in the way people view these stories and we're thankful that this issue is beginning to get similar attention to world platform causes like FREE TILIKUM, the Orca whale held in captivity by SeaWorld that the amazing documentary BLACKFISH helped bring world attention to in their fight for freedom.
We are now 8 days away from our big screenings hosted by the Vancouver at the Vancouver International Film Festival at the VanCity Theatre on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at 7:00pm & 9:00pm. We are working hard to make it a special night for both screenings, with planned Q&As and gifts for our guests. I'm looking forward to attending both screenings with Barb Ward-Burkitt (Executive Director of the Native Friendship Centre Prince George) and hosting the Q&A on Periscope so our online supporters can participate (more details on this soon).
In the 60+ screenings we've had over the last few months, we've discovered that the Q&As have been very effective in getting our audience members engaged. It is really important to me, as a filmmaker that the audience leaves the theatre with the tools necessary to take action if they feel empowered to do so after the film. The more people we have pushing for better public and private services to prevent violence against women the better. Now, with our planned release on VHX, I want to ensure that we continue working together to fight for better protective measures to keep women safe, which is why we hope you keep sharing your stories on our Facebook page and writing our team emails via our website contact page.
In response to the truly heartwarming gift I was given by one of our producing partners, Carrier Sekani Family Services, I decided that it would be a nice to offer our loyal supporters on VHX and Facebook a special 50% FLASH SALE to pre-order your very own download copy of HIGHWAY OF TEARS. We're almost 10,000 strong now! WOW! Hugely touched by your kind hearts!
Your support is instrumental in us continuing to move forward in our fight to pressure the Canadian government to set an example for the rest of the world on how we work together to treat and protect our women & girls. We will also be making announcements in the next couple of weeks on which organizations we will be supporting with the eventual proceeds from the film. It was made with a lot of passion and help from friends. None of this would be possible without their support. I owe a huge amount of gratitude to my producing partner, Carly Pope, my editor, Brandon Lott and the each of the victim's family members, friends and supporters who were there rooting for us over the years to get this project completed. It is important to keep their mothers and daughters in our daily thoughts, as crimes will be solved and hopefully some family members will come back home to safely.
Presently, we have less than 100 subscribers to our newsletter. We hope you will help us get more support by encouraging your friends to sign up so they can also receive news about our efforts. And don't shy away from letting our team members know what you think of the film. I'm sure they'd love to hear from you.
Our production team is offering 2 %50 FLASH SALE discount codes (see below) for you to purchase your very own copy of HIGHWAY OF TEARS (offer ends Sunday, July 19th). For those of you that have purchased your PRE-ORDER copies already, thank you so much and we look forward to sharing special updates for you.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you all for your support!
